This article is to help those logging in to their M365 accounts for the first time.
- Open a new Incognito browser window and go to https://www.office.com/
- Using an Incognito window prevents any auto-logging into any other M365 accounts you may already have
- Click on the Sign In button
- Enter the Southwestern email address you were provided and click Next
- Enter the password you were provided
- You will be presented with the “Let’s keep your account secure” window.
Click on the Next button - Southwestern employs Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to provide extra security. You can choose from several methods to provide this additional security.
We recommend setting up MFA to send a code via a text message. - Click on the “Set up a different way to sign in” link in the following window
- In the next window, choose the “Phone: Get a call or text to sign in with a code” option
- We recommend a text message, which is the default option on the next window. Enter your phone number and click Next
- A text message with a six-digit code will be sent to your phone. You will see a window in your browser where you can enter that code. Click on the Verify button to complete the verification
Changing Your Password
- You will be prompted to change the temporary password.
In the following window, enter the full email address. - You will need to create a new password for this account
- The password must be at least 12 characters long
- It must contain at least one upper and one lower case letter
- It must contain at least one number
- You can add characters like * & % #
- It should be a new password that is not used for any other account
- You will need to enter the new password twice
- Once everything is entered, click on the “Sign in” button
-
You will be presented with a “Stay signed in?” window. As you are probably in an Incognito window, it won’t matter what you choose, but we suggest “No.”
- You will be presented with the M365 Home window.
You have now completed the first-time sign-in process for your Southwestern M365 account. For future access, go to https://www.office.com/ and sign in with your Southwestern email address and new password. You may be prompted to verify your identity using MFA.
If you have trouble signing in, contact Southwestern Law School IT for assistance.
